London Loop 10 Moor Park to Hatch End

on Saturday 27 March 2010

This visit has been organised by David and Gillian Pick

The definitive guide, “The London Loop” was written by David Sharp, list price £12.99. This guide contains maps, directions, detailed descriptions of the local scenery and facilities on the route. This section takes us from Moor Park to Hatch End approximately 5 miles.

This will be a comparatively short section to warm us after our winter hibernation, and just before the clocks change. It is a very green section, with little road walking.  After crossing Sandy Lodge Golf Course, the route snakes through woodlands separating South Oxhey from Northwood and Pinner.  It then crosses farmland around the little community of Pinnerwood, where you walk between charming cottages with well-kept ponds and lawns. Watch out for Pinnerwood House (home of author Edward Bulwer Lytton in 1830s)

Most of the section is in Hertfordshire, but comes back into Greater London towards the end.   For a while the route is shared with the Pinner-Grimsdyke Circular Walk (also the South Oxhey Circular Walk).

Aim to meet at Moor Park Station at 11.00. Since there is no convenient pub on route we will aim for a latish lunch when we get to Hatch End around 13.30 to 14.00. We went to the Moon and Sixpence (Wetherspoons) at 250 Uxbridge Road, HA5 4HS
